Fuerteventura Airport Guide
at Fuerteventura Airport
Hertz Fuerteventura Airport
Fuerteventura Airport is located at El Matorral, just five kilometres from the capital city of the island, known as Puerto del Rosario. Fuerteventura is one of the famous Canary Islands of Spain, and is a very popular destination for holiday makers from around the world. The island’s airport also plays a very important role in tourism, serving over four million passengers per annum. Although bus services are available on the island, many passengers prefer to rent a car from one of the Fuerteventura Airport car hire companies, which include Hertz. Hertz is a well known international company, offering competitive rental rates at this location.
Hertz Fuerteventura Airport is open between the hours of 07:30 and 22:30, for reservations, vehicle collections and vehicle returns, and together with a wide range of vehicles to hire, offers a number of additional equipment for rental cars. These items include the Hertz NeverLost, In-Car Navigation System, child seats and luggage racks. Customers arriving at Fuerteventura Airport are recommended to reserve their vehicles in advance, and to ensure that they have also booked any additional items of equipment needed for their journey, as they are subject to availability. The easiest way to secure your ideal holiday vehicle from Hertz is online, from either the official Hertz website, or other online sources.
Fuerteventura Airport consists of a single terminal building, with three levels. There is a basement level, ground level and the first floor, from where most departure procedures are handled. Passengers will arrive on the ground floor, and will also find the car hire companies located nearby the baggage reclaim area. The rented cars of the various companies are parked in the airport parking lot. When arriving at Hertz to collect your rented car, ensure that you have all the necessary documents available, and that all drivers listed on the rental agreement are present. A valid drivers license from each driver will be required, and it must usually be printed in a Roman alphabet, with the exception of drivers from Greece. Renters from a foreign country should have an International Driving Permit, as this document is required by Spanish Law. An IDP must accompany your local drivers license, as it is not a legal drivers license on its own.
Hertz will also require all primary renters to have a major credit card in their name, as debit cards and cash are not accepted as payment methods. Most Fuerteventura Airport car rental companies offer the possibility of one way hires for their customers, which are most convenient for anyone who will not be returning to the airport. A one way hire will allow the customer to deliver the car to another rental location, anywhere on the island. Customers who plan to travel with their vehicles to other Canary Islands on ferries should just confirm with Hertz if this is permitted, or if additional insurance will be required. At Fuerteventura Airport, one way hires may have extra charges, depending on the final destination of the rented car.
At some Hertz rental locations, disabled customers have the option of using hand controls for their vehicles. Hand controls are ideal for customers with a lower limb deficiency, as they operate the brake and accelerator pedals, and are used on certain automatic vehicles. At Fuerteventura Airport, hand controls will be free of charge, but should be reserved at least 48 hours in advance of your arrival at the airport.
Before leaving Fuerteventura Airport, ensure that you are comfortable with the workings of your vehicle, and that you know which type of fuel to use. You can also get further directions to your next destination from Hertz. The two main roads on the east coast of the island are the FV-1 and FV-2 motorways, and the FV-2 leads directly to the airport from Puerto del Rosario. From the airport, you can take your rented car further south by following the FV-2, or further north on the FV-1 after Puerto del Rosario. There are many wonderful places to explore on the island, including the popular holiday resort of Caleta de Fuste, just a ten minute drive from the airport, and the quaint fishing village of La Lajita, as well as over one hundred beaches to enjoy.
From Hertz, Fuerteventura Airport, three vehicle collections are available from where cars can be hired by their specific makes and models. In the Green Collection, the Renault Clio, Ford Focus Trend and Skoda Octavia are fuel efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles, and are often a popular choice amongst many customers, while the Hertz Fun Collection lives up to its name with the Renault Megane Cabrio, Lotus Evora 3.4, BMW Z4 sDrive 23i and the Volvo XC60. The third collection is the Prestige Collection, with a range of vehicles manufactured by Mercedes and Volvo. Additional vehicles from Hertz include the Toyota Yaris, Opel Astra and estates, such as the Renault Megane Sport Tourer. Larger Minivans can also be hired from Hertz, for example, the Kia Carnival and the Opel Vivaro.
